Canadian 999 Nickels

CTU_CNI_GROUP

99.9% Nickel

1955 – 1981

Canadian nickels were minted from pure nickel metal from 1955 through 1981, when a copper-nickel alloy was implemented to reduce the material cost.  The composition was later changed to a steel alloy.

Approved Processors use electronic sorting equipment to separate 999 nickels from cupronickel and steel nickels, and package the pure nickel variety in 10 pound Trade Units.  A 10 pound Nickel Trade Unit contains approximately $50 face value.

NTUs may occasionally contain nickels dated 1922 – 1942 and 1946 – 1951, which are also .999 pure nickel.  These are not very common in circulation, so very few make their way into Trade Units.

Visit the Approved Merchants page for information on where to buy and sell Trade Units.
